This just Breaks My Heart..
The historic WPLJ 95.5 FM was sold by their parent company and has signed off the air for good this evening at 7 p.m
Since 1971 WPLJ has been the staple of Music.
To some people this was just a Radio Station, to people like me it was THEE rock station. in Middle and High School I would wake up to it. I was even late a few times because of the one song they were playing wasn’t over yet.
In fact I have so many homemade tapes ( If you were a Teenager in the 80s you know what I speak of) With the Jim Kerr announcement of the song he was about to play.. Yes I had bad timing at times but know I will dig out those tapes and find something to listen to them on and cherish those radio station intros..
They were such a great radio station in 1980 The station mourned Lennon’s Dec. 8, 1980, murder with days of round-the-clock Beatles music, followed by 15 minutes of silence, as requested by his widow, Yoko Ono.
Like many radio stations over the years they have had to change with the times. Playing what they were told to play. But the fact they have been around since 1971 is a milestone well to me anyway..
Everything Changes Nothing Stays the same sadly..
I haven’t listened to the Station in years but I feel another piece of my childhood going away..
Take Care Guys and Thanks For The Music..
