Why Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Sucked and Glad it’s Cancelled
First off I have been a fan of Cowboy Bebop ever since I saw it in 1999, back then anime was really starting to hit the mainstream with awesome ones such as Dragon Ball Z, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Trigun, and a few others. Screw that regular T.V. Bubblegum Sailor Moon shit I wanna see some real anime…
Second, off I don’t give a fuck about some almond milk, soy eating new generation politically correct we need changes opinion. Because I don’t care what you think now go off and make a Tik Tok because no one used your correct pronouns.
I will say this tho, I really liked the first and second episodes. I was really pumped to binge-watch the entire series with my bottle of Jameson and get ready to see my Anime heroes do what they do best Kickass, have super cool storylines mixed with some oddball humor while filling us in on the mysterious backstories of each character as they bond and get stronger with each other as the series goes on.
And I will also say I really liked the acting and cast choices, they really did a good job with their characters. I am a huge fan of John Cho I was really happy when he got the part of Spike and I was really glad of the other casting choices as well.
The film style, Film settings I absolutely loved even the ship designs were on point. I loved the effects even the use of the old school cars, it is really had to make cartoons come to life and get as many things correct or as close to correct as they did. In my own opinion, they really put a lot into it and it showed.
But my problem is basically the writers and directors putting their own spin on it. Now it is totally fine to change certain things I am ok with that but these fuckers went off the damn rails. They even had all the time to do it correctly. Buttttttt nooooo.
Now I normally defend the Anime live-action movies because you can tell a whole one to three seasons in under two hours. Like Bleach or Full Metal Alchemist and they at least tried to stay more true to their series.
It’s like these fuckers just skimmed certain episodes, nodded, and said give us a shit ton of money and let’s do this. And call it Cowboy Bebop the fans will eat it up and we are golden…
Ummmm NO…
Here’s Why…
- Spike… The writers just lost their friggin minds.. Now Spike is a badass at least they got that part right and he is a mysterious good-humored character with a very checkered past that you can see by his daily actions. He is a master pickpocket and when he needs to get shit done he goes off on his own, no going through the motions Jet looks up and Spike is gone.
Spike is a master marksman and weapons handler and master of the martial arts (Jeet Kune Do) But his goofball personality offsets that until the shit goes down and he has to get serious. You can also see that he likes to take care of things himself not getting anyone else involved because he does care for Jet, Faye and Ed.
He is not called Fearless no need to complicate shit, he has an utter hatred for Vicious and Julia is the love of his life end of story. Now his Flashbacks with Vicious were cool but all they had to do was leave it at that. Same with Spike and Julia they were in love shit happened no need to rewrite shit.
2. Jet Black.. Again no need to change or add Shit to an already awesome character. Now I don’t care if Jet was Black or White he is actually grey in the anime and he is voiced by the awesome Beau Billingslea.
He is not married nor ever way and never had a kid, he was with the ISSP and was in love with a woman that left him that alone is an awesome storyline but you those suckhole writers wasted so much time on a back story that just sucked. And was out of his Character, yes he gets mad a Spike and Faye but in the end, he thinks about it and realizes that they are a part of him. Yes, he is a father type but to the crew of the Bebop…
3. Faye… Where do I begin? First off I loved the actress that played Faye, I can understand the costume change but sorry Faye has long hair and is a tad taller. Now I love a good lesbian encounter, especially with two hot chicks but again this is not in Faye’s character she obviously has feelings for Spike and was kinda attracted to Gren (More on Gren Later)
Now her personality was on point I loved the way her mannerisms were her smack-talking was great. But she is also very deep and complex and sadly she didn’t pull that off not to mention whoever wrote her lines should never work in the movies again ” Welcome to the ouch” ? what in the fuck was that?
4. Radical Edward.. The last fucking episode??? Really??? Stop the huge rewrites you Jackasses..
5. Vicious… Did you guys even watch all 26 episodes of the Anime? The Titan War? He wasn’t even married again you took another character, added shit you shouldn’t of. Vicious is a badass crime lord he ain’t time to be married. He’s into Money, Drugs, Killing and Orgys
6. Gren… Speaking of backstories Gren is not gay or maybe he was bi I dunno. But he was subjected to experiments that made his body go haywire and grow boobs. And he was a soldier that fought alongside Vicious when they fought on Titan. You had an awesome backstory right here butttt nooo you decided to create shit that was a waste of time and energy.
7. Julia… The douchebag writers really lost it with this one, yes she was badass. But you made her a singer and took her already awesome storyline and went buck wild with a totally assinine new one. Her mysteriousness is what makes her an awesome character.
8. Ein… Is the only character you did right, well you did fuck up his introduction as a gift for Jets daughter. But other than that I laughed like a mother fucker when the projections came out of his eyes lol
9. Assorted characters… Most of them were pretty good from the three old men to Punch and Judy and a few others. But again it’s ok to make slight changes but to totally change and add characters is wrong, and if you are going to do that just don’t call it Cowboy Bebop call it something else.
The writing and storylines are a huge reason why the series worked so well in the first place. It why we fell in love with the characters, all you had to do was follow the basic outline.
Spike and Jet are Bounty Hunters go looking for bounties, they pick up Faye and Ed along the way and the fun ensues and in the course of all this happening, we learn of their lives and see what made them into what they are now and grow and change into the characters we adore. And all this was done in 30 min episodes.
You suck holes had more time to work with, a bigger budget, and still could not do it. To be fair filling the shoes of the original creators of the series isn’t easy and if you thought you could swoop in and do better than them you were sadly mistaken. Downright fucking stupid…
Now if you excuse me I’m gonna go watch Mushroom Samba right now…
